In 2004, Jan Browne, Sarah L’Estrang and I spoke with 100 people who were dying and/or those caring for someone who was dying.

By discussing the process of dying from the consumer and carer perspective, the research identified a gap between health care rhetoric and current realities. The data indicates that participants’ choices were often not respected. Many also described loved ones dying without dignity.

After the report was published, Rodney Syme invited Jan and I to address the ‘Dying with dignity’ annual general meeting.
