The Mornington Peninsula is rapidly changing. What was once a heavily vegetated area with bush blocks, beach shacks, farms and wineries is being subdivided by developers. Large urban style houses are replacing the timber beach shack.
The influx of property developers to the Peninsula will increase if the opposition leaders pledge to extend the train line from Frankston to Baxter is honoured. There will be more McMansions on small blocks. More bricks and mortar; less trees, birds and wildlife.
There will also be an increase in conflicts between locals who love the area and developers who care only about making a profit. To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, developers know the price of everything and the value of nothing. They certainly do not know the value of community.
