The pandemic has highlighted the systemic issues in the age care sector. Many age care homes operate with too few registered nurses and personal care attendants. There is also an increase number of casual staff, including those on 457 visas. Minimising staff numbers, and using a casualised workforce, maximise profits. But it minimises standards of care.
