While we celebrate the outcome of the Irish referendum on same-sex marriage and await our own inevitable reform, let us not forget the 75 countries with criminal laws against sexual activity by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex people.

In particular, let us not forget the countries where homosexuality may be punishable by death: Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Mauritania, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Sudan.

Clearly, more work needs to be done before everyone has the right to love openly, and to have their love publicly recognised.
